Synopsis

New Scotland Yard is a police drama series produced by London Weekend Television for ITV from 1972 and 1974. It features the activities of two officers from the Criminal Investigations Department in the Metropolitan Police force headquarters at New Scotland Yard, as they dealt with the assorted villains of the day.

Seasons & Episodes

E1 Point of Impact

Violence flares up when a student protest meets a counter-demonstration. A young protestor is killed by a blow to the head. The nearest to the body is a mounted Officer Tyrell. DCS John Kingdom now faces a difficult case, where strong evidence accumulates against a brother policeman.

E2 The Comeback

A retired bank manager is murdered in a seemingly motiveless killing. Then, a second murder is committed, and Kingdom, together with his journalist brother-in-law Harry Carson, discovers a possible motive which might also pose a threat to Kingdom's life.

E3 Memory of a Gauntlet

A postman is found murdered by his wife, his body surrounded by Nazi emblems and insignia; it looks like a murder committed by a fanatical ex-Nazi hunter. Kingdom persuades a reporter to splash the story. It has the required effect, and stirs up an ugly situation.

E4 The Palais Romeo

When a woman is found dead on a canal towpath, Kingdom finds himself investigating the third of a series of murders. All the victims are attractive middle-aged women and, despite Inspectors Ward's scepticism, Kingdom becomes obsessed with his theory the murderer is a young man. As the case continues, Ward becomes more and more convinced that Kingdom is on the wrong track.

E5 Hard Contract

As he investigates two murders, Kingdom discovers that both victims had recently returned from abroad, and both were shot by the same gun. When a third shooting takes place, his research reveals they are linked.

E6 Shock Tactics

Kingdom is faced with a bizarre and perplexing case when a man calls the police to report that he has killed his wife — by a practical joke.

E7 The Wrong 'Un

A prison inmate dies from a knife wound; it appears to be a clear case. But Kingdom finds that conducting an investigation in a prison is far from easy. After all, those inside have nothing to lose.

E8 Fire in a Honey Pot

Suspected arsonist Arthur Jones is being questioned about a series of fires in betting shops and gambling clubs. When the Cloud Seven Club is burnt down, a body is discovered and murder is possibly afoot.

E9 Perfect in Every Way

Kingdom investigates what appears to be the perfect murder.

E10 The Banker

Kingdom investigates the murder of couturier Damon Greville, found at the wheel of his car. Details of Greville's finances soon lead to a possible motive.

E11 Ask No Questions

A girl is found murdered on a rubbish dump, and Kingdom's investigation leads him into the world of drop-outs. As he builds a picture of the dead girl and searches for a motive, one question haunts: why was her body placed in that particular location?

E12 Reunion

On the night that Steve Thomas escapes from prison, a solicitor is found murdered in his office – and £11 is missing from the cash box. Kingdom and Ward investigate, but why should anyone commit murder for such a small sum?

E13 And When You're Wrong

Ward hopes to catch the brain behind a series of bank robberies through his contract with shady ex-insurance agent Charles Prentice. But when Ward arrives at Prentice's flat to finalise arrangements, he finds Kingdom, who is there to investigate a murder – and the Inspector's activities.
