Wilder travels to Italy to meet Frank Hagadan, who's responsible for building their motorways. Hagadan is taken with Pamela, just as Wilder with Susan Weldon.

When the labour MP from Fairley dies, Caswell spots an opportunity to get into the Cabinet. He aims to land the support on the topic of traffic, but not everyone is keen to have a champagne socialist as their candidate.

Caswell puts the pieces together, deducing that Wilder is having an affair with Susan Weldon. He puts a quiet word in the right place, in the hope that it will damage his troublesome colleague.

Kenneth Bligh returns from a failed business trip in Africa, he's greeted by Henderson and assumes he's there to welcome him back, unbeknown to Kenneth, Henderson is part of a plan from Wilder to disrupt father and son.
